Well, the A's can't clinch a playoff spot today, but they can win an all-important series that could drop their magic number to two, and put every day in play as the day when we crack open the champagne. Halfheartedly? Only time will tell if we feel the feels. You know what the A's have going for them? Jon Lester.
Jon Lester takes the mound in the rubber game in this all-important penultimate series finale for the A's this afternoon, in what is the A's best chance to win, and what will be his last start before a potential lose-or-go-home one-shot Wild Card game. Hey, no pressure there.
He'll be facing off against Hector Santiago, yet another left-handed pitcher from the bevy of Angels left-handed starters. Which means, for no discermable reason, and no correlation, Jonny Gomes is batting fourth. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!?!?!?!??! Also in the lineup: Norris, Freiman, and Lowrie. Luckily, so is last night's offensive hero, Josh Reddick.
Poor Lester. I'm really sorry in advance.
And also, the A's need to win this game.
Here's to a magic number of TWO!
Here are the full lineups:
